Innovation Without Borders: A Fun and Fruitful Journey with HKUST Mentorship Network in Shenzhen
A fruitful innovation journey isn’t just about learning — it’s about experiencing, connecting, and having fun along the way. That’s exactly what happened last month, when the HKUST Mentorship Network brought over 30 passionate students and alumni to Shenzhen for a cross-border innovation and entrepreneurship adventure on 24 Jun 2025.
This event is part of our ongoing mission to empower startups through the HKUST IPIC Incubation Model — a unique framework that supports entrepreneurs from Ideation to Prototyping, Implementation, and Commercialization.

Prototyping in Action: A Visit to VTech
The day began at VTech, where participants attended an insightful seminar on “Successful Prototyping and Experience Sharing.” Through case studies and real-world demonstrations, attendees explored the “P” in our IPIC model — learning how prototypes are refined, tested, and brought to life.
From concept to creation, participants got a first-hand look at what it takes to turn innovative ideas into tangible products in today’s competitive landscape.

Immersive Theatre Meets Entrepreneurship: Joker Games
Next stop: Joker Games, a vibrant immersive theatre startup founded by Miss Jenny DING, an HKUST student and mentee of the Mentorship Network. Jenny’s candid sharing of her entrepreneurial journey — balancing business and academics in Shenzhen’s fast-paced startup scene — was a highlight of the trip.
Her story brought the “Implementation” and “Commercialization” stages of IPIC to life, showing that entrepreneurship is not just about business plans — it's about creativity, courage, and community.
